Information About Picasso Museum Paris

Getting to the Picasso Museum in Paris is easy. If you’re using the Paris metro system, just get off at either Saint Paul Station or Chemin Vert Station. The museum is close to both these stations, and the directions are signposted as soon as you get out of the station.

You can also hail a taxi cab and ask them to take you to 5 Rue de Thorigny or ride buses 69, 96, 26 or 75 — those that usually stop near the museum.

The building in which the museum is located is a large 17th century French style mansion set in quiet surroundings with closely cut green lawns at the front. Even people who aren’t specially interested in art will enjoy the atmosphere created by the museum building that reminds you of how Paris would have been two centuries ago.

The Museum apparently is in honor of Pablo Picasso’s works. But this also exhibits some of the his collection of paintings by his peers. Among those paintings are that of by Degas, Matisse and Cezanne.

The Museum exhibits more than 3500 artworks of Picasso which covers not only paintings but drawings, ceramic works, engravings and sculptures, thus, collecting the largest bulk of the prominent artist’s work. The pieces distinctively illustrate surrealism, cubism, war and sacrifice.

Opening times at the museum change throughout the year. From October 1st through to the 31st March opening times are from 9.30am to 5.30pm. In the summer, from April 1st to the 30th September the museum stays open an extra half hour to accommodate the higher numbers of tourists.

The Museum shuts down on Tuesdays and particular holidays such as New Year and Christmas.

Ticket rates differ in accordance with age group. If you are below 26, you get the discounted ticket that costs 5.70 euro. Those 26 and above get an ordinary ticket at 7.70 euro while entrance free for minors or below 18 is free as long as a valid ID can be produced.
